Random Audits

The Commission is required to annually audit registration statements and other reports of no more than 4% of all lobbyists on a random basis. The lobbyist selection is performed by the Commission’s staff under the observation of the Attorney General or the Attorney General’s designee to preserve the integrity of the proceeding. The Commission recommends that all lobbyists maintain their paperwork in accordance with the Guidelines for Lobbyists on Preparing for Random Audits; a copy is available on the Commission’s website.

Nothing contained within the provisions of T.C.A § 3-6-308(a)(7) shall be construed to prevent the commission, upon finding probable cause to believe that an employer or a lobbyist has violated the provision, from auditing the registration statement, amendments to registration statement and reports of the employer or lobbyist.
