Lt. Colonel James Hutcherson

Lieutenant Colonel James (Jim) Hutcherson was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel over the Field Operations Bureau in June of 2018. Hutcherson was promoted to Major in October of 2013. As Major, he was over the Field Operations West Bureau overseeing all road trooper operations in the patrol’s Nashville, Lawrenceburg, Jackson, and Memphis Districts. In 2011, Hutcherson had served as Captain of the Nashville District. He began his career with the department as a Communications Dispatcher in 1983 and became a State Trooper in 1986. Hutcherson served in various assignments including road supervisor, homeland security, wrecker services and criminal interdiction. He was also assigned to the department’s Research, Planning and Development Division. Hutcherson served as Administrative Lieutenant in the Nashville District prior to taking the role of Captain. He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. He is currently pursuing a degree in civic leadership at Tennessee State University.
