Community Action Agencies Attend 2Gen Approach Convening 

This month TDHS joined the Tennessee Association of Community Action in hosting a 2Gen/Whole Family Approach convening with community services block grant (CSBG) agencies across the state. Community action agencies/CSBG agencies include 20 local agencies that reach all 95 counties of the state providing a wide array of services to individuals and families with low-income to improve communities. Services might include emergency utility assistance, Head Start, services for senior citizens, transportation assistance, employment assistance and more.  (A listing of all Community Services Block Grant Agencies is below).

Tiffney Marley, CCAP, NCRT, Director of Practice Transformation at the National Community Action Partnership and Jeannie Chaffin, CCAP, consultant and 2Gen Subject Matter Expert for the Community Action Partnership led the meetings. Together they facilitated a conversation to instill a deeper knowledge of the two-generation approach and ways to interweave the two-generation approach into agency services and programming. The meetings allowed for in-person peer learning experiences in which attendees could share ideas, practices that have been effective, and brainstorm solutions to industry-specific concerns.

Agape Children & Family Services Meets with Governor Bill Lee and First Lady Maria Lee During Memphis Visit

In early June, Governor Bill Lee and First Lady Maria Lee made a trip to Memphis, Tennessee- to discuss re-entry programs and agriculture development. While there, they and had a chance to visit with TDHS 2Gen partner Agape Child & Family Services and learn about the transformational services being provided in Memphis communities. 

2Gen Partner Spotlight: EPIC Girl and the FIT Program

EPIC Girl is a nonprofit organization originally created in partnership with the Davidson County Juvenile Court that provides educational programs, mentoring and access to community activities to teen girls in Davidson County.  EPIC Girl’s Family Intervention Team or FIT Program is a capacity building program serving adolescent girls ages 12-18 who
have had multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) that place them at risk for exploitation, substance abuse, truancy and the likelihood of chronic health conditions and continued economic hardship. EPIC Girl’s work intersects with the 2Gen strategy by offering child-focused services along with interventions for parents to ensure family success.
