Mine Safety Training

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development is authorized and directed to organize and conduct training and educational programs for the mining industry in Tennessee which will comply with rules and regulations promulgated by the mine safety and health administration of the United States Department of Labor for such training and education. These programs are to be conducted within the budgetary limitations of §§ 59-1-104 and 59-12-107, together with any federal grants, matching funds, or other departmental revenue which may become available from time to time. (Tenn. Code Ann. §59-12-106 or relevant chapter).MSHA requires all miners and contractors working on mine property to receive comprehensive safety training. 

Annual Statistical Reports

Every owner or operator engaged in mining, quarrying, or production of coal, metal, or nonmetal mines shall on or before February 15th of each year provide the department a detailed report containing the tonnage or man-hours for mines that do not measure tons mined, number of employees, and the estimated number of days worked.  It is a Class C Misdemeanor for any person to fail or refuse to furnish to the department any and all information required for the annual report (Tenn. Code Ann. §59-1-101).
