Project Description

This project extends 1.92 miles from near Bel-Air Road to near Ooltewah-Ringgold Rd in Hamilton County. The typical section includes five (5) 12-ft lanes with curbs, gutters, 6’ shoulders, and sidewalks. The project also includes the improvement of a major intersection at East Brainerd Road and Ooltewah-Ringgold Road as well as a widening of Ooltewah-Ringgold Road which extends 0.91 miles from near East Hamilton High School to near Stonebrook Community. The typical section for Ooltewah-Ringgold Road includes five (5) 11-ft lanes with curbs, gutters, shared use paths, and sidewalks.

Challenges to the project include utilities, urban drainage, construction phasing, a major urban intersection improvement, and maintenance of traffic in a tight urban developed condition. Several overhead and underground utilities run along the corridor and the existing intersection. There are also several businesses, churches, and schools that will need to remain open during construction.

The box culvert at Hurricane Creek will be phased during the construction. Several large drainage pipes and structures are proposed along the roadway and near the intersection. Fuller Road will be brought up to safety standards which will include a fill at the intersection and addition of a box culvert structure.

The East Brainerd/Ooltewah-Ringgold Road Intersection will need to remain open and operational during construction. The project will bring up the elevation of the intersection.
