Floral Policy

1. FLORAL & COMMEMORATIVE ITEMS

a. In an effort to provide for the aesthetic beauty of the Tennessee State Veterans Cemeteries the following policy is provided.

b. Floral arrangements, either vertical or horizontal, accompanying the casket or urn at the time of burial will be placed on the covered grave. Arrangements will be removed when they become unsightly.

c. Fresh-cut flowers are welcomed and encouraged throughout the year. Floral arrangement will be removed when they become unsightly.

d. Christmas wreaths, grave blankets and other seasonal adornments may be placed on graves beginning December 1 and will be removed no later than January 10 of the following year.  Grave blankets may not exceed 2 feet by 3 feet.  Any vertical fixture such as a Christmas tree, snowman, etc. should not exceed the side of the stone in height.

e. Potted plants or plants in baskets are permitted and must be placed on the grave. Planting of any kind near or around the burial is not permitted. Potted plants are permitted and will only be allowed on the graves during the period one week prior and one week after the following holidays:

•  Easter
•  Memorial Day
•  Mother’s Day
•  Father’s Day

d. Artificial flowers are permitted November 1 through April 1 and must be placed in a plastic or metal cone shaped container to the side of the headstone. Arrangements placed should be beside the stone and should be no taller than the top edge of the stone.

e. Permanent plantings, flowers, statues, vigil lights, breakable objects, pinwheels, balloons of any type, commemorative items or similar items are not permitted on graves. Tall arrangements which are supported by a metal easel are not allowed other than during the time in which they accompany the casket or urn to the grave during the burial.

f. United States flags are furnished by Tennessee Department of Veterans Services and will placed on the graves immediately prior to both Veterans Day and Memorial Day by cemetery staff and community volunteers. They will remain on the grave during the holiday and will be removed the first business day after the holiday.  Flags are not permitted on the grave at any other time.

2. FLORAL REGULATIONS SIGN ABBREVIATED FLORAL POLICY

To help preserve the dignity and solemnity of a final resting place for our Veterans, the following floral policy is established:
Fresh-cut flowers are welcomed and encouraged throughout the year.  Floral arrangements will be removed when they become unsightly.  Artificial flowers are permitted November 1 through April 1 and must be placed in a plastic or metal cone shaped container to the side of the headstone.

Potted plants are only permitted one week prior and one week after the following holidays:
Easter – Memorial Day – Mother’s Day – Father’s Day

Christmas wreaths, grave blankets and other seasonal adornments may be placed on graves beginning December 1 and will be removed no later than January 10.  United States flags are furnished by TDVS and will be placed on the graves during Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
